I really enjoyed this book The main character is hilarious and complex. The story is based on a future idea that the supernatural does exist, and science is trying to catch up. 'Science to be'. Our protagonist finds himself dragged into the government organisation trying to control what can come out of 'the ether'. Erik is very creative regarding what comes out! I look forward to the next book.

Rented Souls Volume 1 Eirik Moe DahllLarssøn 9781537454924 Books Reviews

Excellent read and so fun, really looking forwards to the second one in this series! The characters are really really well made. You are there the entire time, and I love the different mysteries and the combination of this story actually happening in our world. The fact that you as a reader are just part of the rationalisation and the reactions. And then you pull out and your like right this isn't happening now, they're just retelling the story!😊
Rented Souls is a unconventional story. The tale takes place in a universe where creatures from other worlds have grown to be common knowledge amongst the population of earth, with an agency doing their best to police these creatures and defend against any wrongdoers. Enter our protagonist, a unassuming but oh so sassy introvert suddenly dragged into a world full of danger and mystery, and fabulous dick jokes. Moe Dahll-Larssøn's writing is ripe with twisted humour, colourful characters and action. It's a book quite unlike anything I've ever read before, with a rather refreshing take on the concept of paranormal investigation, but in a world where nothing seems to take itself too seriously. That is not to say that there isn't both suspense and thrills. The members of the agency regularly put their lives on the line to defend the world, but it all happens in ways that you don't really see coming. So pick up the book and start reading, you won't regret it.
Perfect weather for reading in Bergen last Sunday, so I finished Eirik Dahll-Larssøns “Rented souls”. A good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
“Rented souls” is Eirik Dahll-Larssøns second novel and the first of a series set in Lynch City. The town is threatened by a crazy, demonic enemy, and the fight against this unknown horror requires someone special, a person not afraid to die, someone immortal, someone like Dwarf. He is the charming main character of the novel. His most important qualification being that he cannot die, and who’s main weapon is words.
I like the way Dwarf and the other characters are drawn. A few simple words and the relationships between them is set. Humor is an important part of the storytelling. So is the continuous description of the endless fights against the enemy.
I am not really into fantasy horror and the endless fights against the monsters doesn’t engage me that much. But in these times, when reality surpasses the intellect, it is not hard to see the parallels ...
The end of the novel is simple and beautiful, a real teaser for the following book. Looking forward already to read more about Dwarf, Book, Swayze and the rest of the gang in Lynch City.
I really like Dwarf.
Interesting and funny.
The mixture of comedy and horror works great in this book, every time something incredulous, 'out of this worldly', and scary happens - the main protagonist Dwarf has a witty and often charmingly-sarcastic comeback to settle the readers equilibrium. Scary enough to warrant the horror label, as some of the monsters in the book can have quite the unsettling effect on the reader, but also funny enough for me to look back at the reading experience as a mostly humorous journey - as so many of the terrifying elements of the story are so well counterbalanced with humor.
The story brings to life the characters and their individual perspectives to all the crazy that is unleashed on them - the range of characters from 'veterans' to our 'newbie' protagonist Dwarf - give you insight into a range of different reactions to the otherworldly that makes for a very engaging read.
I'd recommended it to anyone that would like a good laugh, as it at several points during the book made me chuckle, snort, and/or laugh out loud, as they also are served a well built world, with engaging characters and compelling relationships explorations.

I see a lot of possibility for expansion as the series goes forward, and I can't wait for the next book in the series, to see what crazy journey is laid out for Dwarf, Swayze and Book - as the story progresses.
